We Are Family Movie - Music Review

We Are Family Movie- Music Review: The trio of Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy has come a long way since their Rockford and Dil Chahta Hai days. Their simple yet euphonious melodies just warm the cockles of the heart. Yet again, they are treading the safe path while composing songs for We Are Family, a Karan Johar production that stars Kareena Kapoor, Arjun Rampal and Kajol  in main lead.
We Are Family Movie
The film has five songs for which the composers have teamed with lyricist Irshad Kamil and Anvita Dutt Guptan. The first in the list is Aankhon Mein Neendein which is in the voice of Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and Shreya Ghosal. The number is expectedly soothing with its chirpy, romantic lyrics. This is a typical Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy song, but it does have its moments.

Dil Khol Ke, Let’s Rock, the desi version of Elvis’s ‘Jailhouse Rock’, is dull and what makes it boring is undoubtedly its middling lyrics. However, what may click with the audience could be its picturisation. The feisty singers like Anushka Manchanda, Akriti Kakkar and Suraj Jagan deserve a better song than this one.

With Reham-O-Karam, the SEL trio has delivered what’s expected from them. The tune of the songs can perk up anyone’s low spirits. In fact, the next song Hamesha & Forever also takes the same sublime route. The chorus of both the songs sounds a tad similar to the church choir songs, including the musical arrangements.

Sun le dua yeh aasman a slow version of Hamesha & Forever with somber strain can directly affect your tear glands. Then there is We Are Family theme, the last song of the album, which can again send you in the doldrums with its melancholic cadence. Does it also signify the sad ending of the film?

As Karan’s films hardly fail to deliver good songs, We Are Family soundtrack too is not different from the league, but on music scale, the album doesn’t have anything exceptional to offer. The producer has penchant for emotional songs, and the tracks in the album remind of the evergreen sad songs like Tujhe Yad Na Meri Aayi, Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna, Kal Ho Na Ho. But an overdose of melodrama certainly isn’t going to lighten up your mood.
