According to the Mumbai Mirror, Santosh Sivan wants Balan to perform a sensuous dance to a classical song in his upcoming period drama, Urumi.

Blending the sensuous with the classical, we guess Balan is Sivan's best bet to pull that off. Urumi, set in 15th century Kerala, headlines Genelia D'Souza, Prithviraj and Prabhu Deva. It's a fictional story about four young men who plot to assassinate the Portugese explorer Vasco Da Gama.

The film is simultaneously being made in Tamil. Both versions will have English subtitles targeting international audiences.

Balan will perform a traditional version of Mohiniyattam dance form of Kerala.
Mohiniyattam - dance of the enchantress.

The term Mohiniyattam comes from the words "Mohini" meaning a woman who enchants onlookers and "aattam" meaning graceful and sensuous body movements. The dance attire is a white saree with rich gold borders.

Balan is Sivan's first choice as he was impressed with her sensuous Indian looks in Ishqiya.

Balan is yet to sign on the dotted line, but if she does, she will know exactly what she is taking on. Here is her take on what is sensuous and sexy as told to TOI some time back.

"Sexy is now equated with shedding clothes, just like glamour is equated with wearing Western. But I think I looked both sexy and glamorous in Parineeta, despite my Indian look in the film.

Sexy is all about the appeal one has in one's eyes. But since that's not how it's perceived, I'd rather want to be called sensuous than sexy."

So, don't expect Balan to show her curves in the dance, because she can floor you with just her doe eyes and coquettish smile.
